Australian dinnerware - Good clay. Good people. Good cause. Good plates
With a decade of experience working alongside some of Australia’s finest chefs, Topolcsanyi recognised an opportunity to leverage her skills as a studio potter. She has created an affordable, high-quality restaurant tableware range made in Abbotsford Victoria. Utilizing her signature Cone 11 Studio glazes and design techniques, she draws inspiration from the textures and colours of local landscapes and embodies a distinctly Australian character
This collection offers a contemporary reinterpretation of classic tableware, reflecting Australia’s dynamic culinary scene. The current palette features muted, earthy tones—layered bronzes, greens, charcoals, and soft whites—evoking the tranquillity of autumn and winter. Seasonal variations will ensure the range remains fresh and aligned with the annual cycle of produce.
Community lies at the core The Good Plate. In an era marked by increasing isolation, this initiative harnesses the age-old power of ceramics to unite individuals from diverse backgrounds, fostering a sense of belonging through shared meals. At the heart of The Good Plate project is a commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and building meaningful relationships among the dedicated staff based at the Melbourne Clay Center for Small to Medium-scale Ceramic Production & Professional Development. They exemplify this ethos, connecting like an extended family.
From the outset, a portion of all sales has been donated to non-profit organizations that directly support the community through food initiatives. So far, we have raised over $20,000 for Scarf, who help young refugees gain sustainable employment by providing hospitality training and experience. This commitment to giving back is deeply personal for Topolcsanyi, reflecting her gratitude for the opportunities afforded to her extended family, who arrived as new Australians over fifty years ago.
The name of this range is inspired by Topolcsanyi’s grandmother, who would bring out “the good plates” for special family gatherings. “I believe every dining occasion is special,” she says. “Each meal shared is a moment of nourishment and connection that deserves to be celebrated—now more than ever.”
